Frequently asked questions
Baking questions:
Help! I lost my instruction card!
You can find the relevant instruction card on our Instruction Cards page, or on the individual product page, at the bottom in the photos section.
Should I use salted or unsalted butter?
Either works perfectly fine, but for optimal results use unsalted.
Do I need to use an electric mixer?
You're more than welcome to use an electric mixer (it will be faster!), but our recipes are designed to be able to mixed by hand easily, with whatever you have nearby. Our bread kits do not require an electric mixer, we find using a spoon or spatula works best.
My cookies took longer/shorter than suggested. What's up with that?
All ovens are slightly different. Given that, it may affect your baking time. Elevation also makes a bit of a difference so if you're somewhere other than Calgary it could affect the baking time. Just keep an eye on them, and check on the instruction card what the baking should look like when it's done too! We always suggest erring on the side of under-baked with cookies to ensure they stay soft. :D
General kit questions:
Are your products Vegan?
Our beer bread kits are Vegan. Almost all our cookie kits can be prepared Vegan by using vegan butter and a flax egg. Our chocolate chip kits are the only ones that contain dairy.
Do you have any low sugar options?
Our beer bread kits contain very little sugar. The lowest sugar option is our snickerdoodle kit, and our chocolate chip cookie recipe has about 25% less than a traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe.
What is the shelf life of the kits?
Our kits are made with all natural ingredients (nothing you wouldn't be able to find yourself!), which ensures that they will last quite a while in your cupboard. The worst thing that will happen is if the kit contains brown sugar it could go a bit hard, but should be okay when you mix it up with the wet ingredients. Our best before date on the packaging is 15 months from the date of packaging, but the product will be good for much longer than that.
