Frequently asked questions
Help! I lost my instruction card!
You can find the relevant instruction card on our Instruction Cards page, or on the individual product page, at the bottom in the photos section.
Should I use salted or unsalted butter?
Either works perfectly fine, but for optimal results use unsalted.
Do I need to use an electric mixer?
You're more than welcome to use an electric mixer (it will be faster!), but our recipes are designed to be able to mixed by hand easily, with whatever you have nearby.
My cookies took longer/shorter than suggested. What's up with that?
All ovens are slightly different. Given that, it may affect your baking time. Elevation also makes a bit of a difference so if you're somewhere other than Calgary it could affect the baking time. Just keep an eye on them, and check on the instruction card what the baking should look like when it's done too! We always suggest erring on the side of under-baked with cookies to ensure they stay soft. :D
General kit questions:
Are your products Vegan?
Almost all our kits can be prepared Vegan by using vegan butter and a flax egg. Our chocolate chip kits are the only ones that contain dairy.
Do you have any low sugar options?
The lowest sugar option is our snickerdoodle kit, and our chocolate chip cookie recipe has about 25% less than a traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe.
Are any of the kits low fat?
Our peanut butter cookie kit uses powdered peanut butter which has about 90% less fat than traditional peanut butter, and 1/4 of the calories.
What is the shelf life of the kits?
Our kits are made with all natural ingredients (nothing you wouldn't be able to find yourself!), which ensures that they will last quite a while in your cupboard. The worst thing that will happen is if the kit contains brown sugar it could go a bit hard, but should be okay when you mix it up with the wet ingredients. Our best before date on the packaging is 6 months from the date of packaging, but the product will be good for much longer than that. We also use compostable packaging which won't last quite as long as plastic (see question below regarding packaging), but shouldn't be an issue.
Is your packaging sustainable?
We use eco-friendly degradable packaging, which can be composted at an industrial composting facility. If you live outside of an area that offers composting, you can throw it away and it will degrade much faster than other trash as it is made from 60% renewable wood pulp starch. In comparison, standard foil/plastic bags are made from 100% non-renewable products which are not degradable.
I live in BC and want to order from you, why is this not an option at check out?
Currently lazy bake is only certified in Alberta through Alberta Health Services to be producing and selling our kits. We are investigating getting certified through the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to allow us to be able to ship outside of Alberta. Sign up for our mailing list to be the first to know once we have this and can fulfil your orders.
